Camille Villar visits Catanduanes, world’s top abaca producer

Noting that Catanduanes is the abaca capital of the Philippines, millennial senatorial candidate Camille Villar reiterated her support to the local abaca industry during her visit to the province recently.

“Congratulations po sa pagiging ‘world’s top producer of abaca’, at dahil po dyan ay buhay na buhay ang inyong ekonomiya at kabuhayan,” she said. “Talagang proud po tayo sa industriya na yan dito sa inyong lalawigan dahil sa ang abaca ay tinatawag na ‘world’s strongest fiber’,” she added.

The Philippines remains a top producer of the world’s strongest fiber, also used by world-renowned Filipino designers in their projects.



“Tuloy-tuloy nating palalakasin pa po ang sektor ng agrikultura, ang local trade and economy para mas lumikha pa ng madami pang trabaho at kabuhayan para sa ating mga kababayan,” she said.

Camille Villar cited the importance of providing adequate support to abaca farmers, and to ensure that abaca fibers are bought at competitive prices.

Catanduanes has 36,853 hectares abaca production area, which are cultivated by 15,000 abacaleros, the Department of Agriculture reported.

To ensure that the Philippines’ maintained its spot as a top abaca producer in the world, Camille Villar added appropriate support should be given to the abaca industry.

“I share the same vision with all of you. Itutuloy-tuloy po natin ang suporta sa probinsya ng Catanduanes at maging sa buong Bicol region,” she said.
