Impeachment trial dapat simulan na – Sen. Pimentel

AGAD na pinasisimulan ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III kay Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero ang impeachment trial laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Sa liham ni Pimentel kay Escudero na may petsang Pebrero 14, binanggit ni Pimentel na alinsunod sa Article XI, Section 3, paragraph 4 ng 1987 Constitution ang impeachment complaint na tinanggap ng Senado ay dapat aksiyunan na agad.

“In case the verified complaint or resolution of impeachment is filed by at least one-third of all the Members of the House of Representatives, the same shall constitute the Articles of Impeachment, and trial by the Senate shall forthwith proceed.”

Ipinaliwanag ni Pimentel na sa nasabing talata ay nakasaad na “trial by the Senate shall FORTWITH proceed” na ang simpleng kahulugan aniya sa salitang Pilipino ay dapat agad na itong umpisahan.

Dahil dito, naniniwala si Pimentel na kabilang sa pangunahing tungkulin ng Senado na dapat bigyan ng agarang aksiyon ang impeachment complaint.

Matatandaang tinanggap ng Senado ang impeachment complaint noong Pebrero 5 ng taong kasalukuyan ngunit makailang ulit nang sinabi ni Escudero at iba pang mga senador na sa Hulyo pa ito uumpisahan matapos ang State of the Nation Address ng Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (Mylene Alfonso)
