UST nakamit ang 8th UAAP women’s tennis title

TINULDUKAN ng University of Santo Tomas (UST) ang paghahari ng National University (NU) sa iskor na 3-0 sweep sa deciding match ng UAAP Season 87 women’s tennis finals sa Felicisimo Ampon Tennis Center sa Malate, Manila Linggo.
NU, ang champion sa nakaraang tatlong seasons, ay nagwagi sa Game 1 (3-1) pero gumanti ang UST sa Game 2 (3-1).
“So proud, so happy for the team,”Wika ni UST coach Dennis Sta. Cruz.
“That was really our game plan — to get at least two singles matches in this final game. Luckily, we got three. We didn’t just give two, so we managed to finish the series with three singles wins without having to go into the doubles,” dagdag nya.
Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) Mica Emana nagwagi laban kay Danna Abad, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, para sa Tigresses na tinapos ang kanilang pitong taon na tagtuyot para makupo ang kanilang ika-walong championship overall.
Ang kanyang performance sa boung finals ay umani ng papuri mula kay Sta. Cruz.
“I really saw the progress of our Rookie of the Year, Mica Emana. She really delivered in the last two games of the finals. She’s matured a lot. She made major improvements since the first round. She truly grew as a player,” Wika ni Sta. Cruz.
