Filipino surfer Esquivel kinumpleto ang three-peat sa 2025 La Union longboard

SINALUBONG ng decorated Filipino surfer na si Rogelio “Jay-R” Esquivel Jr. ang mga dambuhalang alon at nakumpleto ang three-peat sa men’s edition ng World Surf League’s La Union International Pro Longboard Qualifying Series na ginanap simula Enero 20 hanggang 22 sa Urbiztondo.

Dinaig ng La Union native ang Filipino rival Penny Ventura sa finals ng event sa iskor na 15.67 out of the 20 posible points laban kay Ventura 14.84.

Sa kanyang ikatlong taon na pinanghahawakan, ang event ay humakot ng 32 professional surfers mula sa boung rehiyon ang sumabak at umabot sa Asia region qualifiers para sa 2025 WSL Longboard Tour.

Tinapos ang 2024 season sa fourth sa world rankings, Umaasa si Esquivel na mapanateli ang momentum at muling ma qualify para sa World Longboared Tours na siya palang ang unang Filipino ang nakagawa.

“I’m super stoked to win this event once again. It’s been an awesome Finals Day, and this is a big win for the Philippines. This week has been extra special because I can see the local surfers improving year on year, as well as all of the other surfers from the Asia region,”Wika ng 28-year-old Esquivel.

“I love to watch them all surf here on my home break. This is a great start to the year for me and also for the Filipino community. Hopefully, this momentum keeps going,” Dagdag nya.
