KUMPIYANSA si Philippine Table Tennis Federation,Inc. (PTFF) president Ting Ledesma na ang team na sasabak sa Cambodia Southeast Asian Games sa susunod na buwan ay makapaguwi ng kahit 3 medalya.
“The target is one gold and two bronze medals,”Wika ni Ledesma sa panayam Miyerkules. “We have two talented newcomers who are potential medal winners.”
Tinukoy ni Ledesma na ang gold medal ay manggagaling sa men’s doubls events at ang 2 bronze medals ay magmula sa men’s at women’s singles events.
Ang men’s team ay binobuu nina Jann Mari Nayre, John Russell Misal, Eljey Dan Tormis, Filipino-French Edoard Valenet at Richard Gonzales habang ang women’s squad ay sina Rose Jean Fadol, Kheith Rhynne Cruz, Sendrina Andrea Balatbat, Angelou Joyce Laude and Emy Rose Dael.
Sasabak sa men’s doubles ay sina 2022 Vietnam SEA Games silver medal winners Misal at Gonzales at ang pares nina Valenet at Tormis.
Pasok rin sina Gonzales at Nayre sa men’s singles event,habang si Cruz at Dael ay sa women’s singles event.
Maglalaro sa women’s doubles ay sina Cruz at Fadol, Dael at Laude. Valenet at Laude ang ibang mixed doubles.Valente at Tormis ay parehong nag performed sa PTTF National Selection nakaraang Pebrero sa Puerto Princesa, Palawan para makasilat ng slots sa SEAG-bound team.
“I’m excited,” Wika ng 19-year-old Tormis,na maka-teamup si Fadol sa mixed doubles.
“I’m proud to say that being in the national team is one of the best achievements that I’ve done, because this is one of my dreams that came true,” Sambit ng 5-foot-6 Bachelor of Science in science fitness sports and management student sa University of Santo Tomas (UST).
Si Tormis, na ipinanganak sa Cebu City, ay dumating sa Manila noong 2018 at nakatira sa mag asawang Mary Jane at Mark Chavez, na parehong table tennis player.
“I met Korean coach Kwon Mi Sook during the 2017 Huaching International Invitational tournament in Cebu. She was with the national team at that time. She saw my potential and she started training me and Jann Mari Nayre,” anya.
Gumawa ng kasaysayan si Nayre na unang Filipino table tennis player nang sumabak sa Youth Olympics nang ma qualified sa 2018 edition na ginanap sa Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ang Cambodia SEA Games ay hindi unang international tournament para kay Tormis. Sumali siya sa national junior team sa 2020 at pagkatapos ng dalawang taon, nagwagi siya ng bronze medal sa team event kasama si Henze Dominique Lucero,Mahendra Cabrido at Yves Reg sa Southeast Asia Junior and Cadet Championship sa Bangkok, Thailand.
“Hopefully, with the support of the PFFT, my alma mater UST and our sponsors, I can achieve more in the future,” Tugon ni Tormis.
