NPC celebrates 68th anniversary

The National Press Club of the Philippines, the oldest professional and social organization of journalists in the Philippines, which promotes the strict adherence of the members of the press to the Journalism Code of Ethics, is celebrating its 68th anniversary today, October 29, 2020.

According to NPC President Paul M. Gutierrez, in celebrating its continuous existence, a thanksgiving mass will be held at 1pm, in Bulwagang Plaridel, NPC Building, Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, Manila.

One of the highlights of this year’s celebration with the theme “PROUD AND STRONG@68” is the awarding of plaques of recognition and appreciation and certificates of recognition and appreciation to those who helped the National Press Club in all its endeavors to provide assistance to the members, by way of proposing laws to Congress for the benefits of NPC members, providing insurance, scholarships, housing, medical and financial assistance among others, especially during this coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.



Among the awardees are Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Majority Leader Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sen. Richard Gordon, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Martin Marfori Andanar, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Usec. Benny Antiporda, Presidential Commission on Urban Poor Chairman Alvin Feliciano, House committee on labor and employment chairman and 1-PACMAN Partylist Rep. Enrico Pineda, BOC Assistant Commissioner/Spokesperson Atty. Vincent Philip Maronilla, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, PNP Deputy for Administration P/Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, PCOO Usec. Joel Sy Egco, ACT-CIS Partylist Reps. Eric Go Yap, Jocelyn Pua-Tulfo and Rowena Nina Taduran.

Other individuals and groups with remarkable contributions to the NPC are Mr. Cesar Chavez, chief of staff, Office of the Mayor, Manila; Technical Education Skills and Development Authority, Pasay City Host Lions Club under the leadership of Pres. Lydia Bueno; Alaska Milk Corporation; former Candaba Mayor Danilo Baylon, CEO, Dan Way Processing; Mr. Dennis Napule, Ms. Christine Francisco and Dr. Jovertice Pudan of Risen Savior Mission, USA and Healthy and Safety Knights of the Philippines; and Journalists Gina Mape, Mer Layson, Bambi Purisima and Joel Gorospe.

Certificate of Recognition was already given to Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta during the oathtaking of NPC officers and board of directors last Wednesday in the En Banc Session Hall of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

The new officers of the NPC are Mr. Gutierrez of People’s Journal (President), Ma. Kristina Maralit of Daily Tribune (Vice President), Lydia Bueno of Remate (Secretary), Mina Navarro of Balita (Treasurer), and Eunel Leonel M. Abasola of Balita (Auditor).

Members of the Board of Directors are Alvin Murcia (Daily Tribune), Jean Fernando (Manila Bulletin), Nats Taboy (Remate), Aya Yupangco (DWIZ), Madz Dominguez (Manila Bulletin), Benedict Abaygar (Pilipino Mirror), Joe Torres (LiCAS News), Jun Mendoza (Philippine Star), Jeany Lacorte (Abante) and Joey Venancio (Police Files Tonite).



Earlier on Monday, the NPC conducted feeding program benefiting around 3,000 residents of Intramuros and nearby barangays in Tondo, Manila.

The organization was incorporated on October 29, 1952 through the initiative of newspaperman Teodoro Valencia, who became its third president. #
