TULOY ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) election ayon sa nakatakdang petsa sa Nov. 27.
Sinabi ni POC pre-sident at Cavite Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino na tinanggihan ng executive board ang motion ni weightlifting chief Monico Fuentevella na ipagpaliban ang election sa susunod na taon.
“The motion was unanimously disapproved as it requires amendments to the POC constitution and bylaws,’’ wika ni Tolentino matapos ang POC executive board meeting nitong Martes na naka sentro ang detalye sa darating na elections.
Ayon kay Tolentino, ang panukala ay kailangan aprubado ng 13-man executive board at ng general assembly, na binobuo lahat ng 51 national sports association na kinikilala ng POC.
“There’s not enough time to tackle it,’’ tugon ni Tolentino, na tatakbo para sa four-year term hanggang sa 2024 Paris Olympics.
Tinalakay din sa executive board meeting via Zoom ang kapalit ni Valenzuela City Rep. Eric Martinez sa three-man election committee (Comelec) inatasan na mamahala sa polls.
Isa sa napili si UP president Danilo Concepcion or UAAP commissioner at lawyear Rebo Saguisag kapag tinanggihan ni Concepcion. Tinaggihan ni Father Vic Calvo ang alok na lumahok sa Comelec.
Si dating International Olympic Committee member Frank Elizalde ang gaganap na chairman ng Comelec at arbitration lawyer Teodoro Kalaw lV as member.
Makakalaban ni Tolentino si Archery chief Clint Aranas para sa presidency.
