Senado tutol sa ‘no election’ sa 2022

TUTOL ang Senado sa mungkahing ‘no election’ scenario sa 2022 dahil sa COVID-19.
Ayon kay Senador Imee Marcos, chairman ng Senate Committee on Electoral Reform and People’s Participation, kailangan matuloy ang 2022 election alinsunod sa nakasaad sa konstitusyon.
Ipinaliwanag ni Marcos na maraming mga bansa ang nagsagawa ng kanilang halalan sa kabila ng nararanasang pandemya.
“We abide by the Constitution and proceed with the elections in 2022. After all, several countries have conducted elections during this pandemic – South Korea, Taiwan, Belarus, Singapore, Iceland, Poland and, in November, the United States,” ani Marcos.
Kaugnay nito, inilatag ng senadora ang mga maaaring gawin ng Comelec sa pagsasagawa ng botohan habang nasa gitna ng pandemic tulad ng expanded early voting, mail-in ballots sa piling lugar at live-stream online voting.
“However, we should explore all possible scenarios: the three-day in-person recommendation of Comelec, expanded early voting, mail-in ballots and, even in select cases, livestream online voting. No doubt there are issues with every mode of voting, but the voice of the people must be heard,” sabi nito.
Nilinaw ni Marcos na batid niyang may mga isyu sa nabanggit na paraan pagboto subalit kailangan gumawa ng paraan upang marinig ang boses ng sambayanan.
Tinawag naman ni Senador Panfilo bilang ‘stupidity’ ang mungkahing ipostpone ang halalan sa 2022 dahil sa banta ng COVID-19 pandemic. (Mylene Alfonso)
